Flixtime is an application for producing videos of up to 60 seconds with images and music. By uploading personal photos, video clips, and music or using those available on the site, users can easily create visually interesting videos without the effort generally required by other slideshow programs.
Flixtime went live on February 22, 2010. Oleg Tscheltzoff, CEO of both Fotolia and Flixtime, said that he created Flixtime in response to Fotolia users’ request for an easy-to-use tool for creating videos with images and text. While Fotolia provides royalty-free images, AudioMicro provides songs and sound effects for Flixtime’s videos.
Flixtime makes photo videos, similar to slideshows, of up to 60 seconds automatically and easily. Users choose images, videos, and music and Flixtime generates the video with transitions between images and the selected music. The ease of use and automatic video generation is unique to this program.
To create a new video, users enter a name and video description and choose from the available formats: MP4, DivX, H264, Flv, or MP4 iPod. Users can then choose a cover image to represent the video. Photos and videos are then added by upload or via the media lounge which offers images organized by various themes. Photo uploads are somewhat slow, even with a high-speed Internet connection. Music files may be uploaded from the user’s computer or selected from the Music Lounge. Photos are easily organized with drag and drop.
Once selections are finalized, a single click renders the video. After this process, the video will automatically begin to play. Once finished, the video may be edited, remixed, shared via email or social networking tools (Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, YouTube, and more), embedded with html code, or downloaded.
The resulting video will be 60 seconds or less. Some image distortion and blurring was noted in the review tests as the photos moved during transition. This was somewhat disconcerting as the images are in motion more than they are still. Note that users cannot choose the transitions used between photo files as these are automatically generated.
New users must provide a nickname of at least 6 characters to be used on the site, email address, password, and optionally full name and country. Upon submission, users receive a promo code for 3 free stock images from fotolia.com. This offer necessitates signup with that site.
Flixtime is completely free to use.
This is a fun, simple application for anyone who wants to share photos and video clips in a creative way. The easy-to-use interface allows kids and adults to create interesting short videos. Students might find this an interesting tool for school projects. The ability to share via social media outlets, email, and download also makes this a useful application for those wishing to share images online.
